Macau students can fast track their careers with new career program
Macau, September 6, 2010 –Wynn Macau is launching a "Headstart Career Program" designed to help local hospitality students start out in the hospitality industry at the right level and in their chosen area of interest. This personalized, pre-employment training program gives each student the opportunity to earn valuable work experience while they are studying, and contributes toward the long-term development of local talent for Macau's hospitality and tourism industry. Fifteen ambitious, local students studying at IFT (The Institute for Tourism Studies), who aspire to work in the hospitality industry, were selected for this program.
As an industry leader in Macau, Wynn Macau foresees fast-growing demand for local hospitality talent. The "Headstart" program, with support from IFT, will help maintain a steady stream of skilled, local professionals and develops mutually beneficial relationships with local educational establishments. The program enables each participant to gain valuable work experience at junior positions while they are at university. As a result, they are in a better position to apply for supervisory level jobs after they graduate, thereby expediting their careers.
To successfully complete the "Headstart" program, students start work at Wynn Macau during the summer months after their first year of school. They continue to participate until graduation. Over the course of the three-year internship, students will be given an allowance for their work. Apart from the compulsory internship period set by the school, the students enjoy flexible working hours and can work with their respective training managers to choose their shifts. These flexible work hours ensure students are given a balanced work and school schedule, so they can prioritize their school work. Throughout the "Headstart" program, participants will receive continued support from the Wynn Academy, Human Resources and the Training Managers from their respective divisions. Support includes regular meeting to assess performance, discuss feedback and provide guidance.
Wynn's "Headstart" program is the first of its kind in Macau, offering on-the-job training and exciting career opportunities to local hospitality students while they are still studying, opening the door to higher level positions at Wynn Macau after graduation. Through "Headstart", Wynn Macau aims to strengthen the skills and knowledge of the local workforce, develop local talent, improve service standards and help transform Macau into a world-class tourist destination.
